World Expo Dubai

Confidence High In Dubai Prior To World Expo Dubai Bid Vote

With just few days left for the vote at BIE for World Expo Dubai , the mood in Dubai in upbeat. Jumeirah Group’s CEO, Gerald Lawless shared his opinion that UAE is the place to hold the World Expo. He felt that UAE was made for the Expo and vice versa. Dubai is ready for World Expo with infrastructure, accommodation, connectivity and so on in place.

The city of Dubai has been the meeting place, he opined, connecting people of various nationalities in an ambient manner. It has been known as a safe haven and is famous for its hospitality, be it the fabulous Burj Al Arab or the budget hotels. And today presents no reason to doubt the conditions in 2020 too.

According to him, Dubai now has enough and more hotels to accommodate a large show. UAE is perhaps the top country in terms of hotels per head of whole population and accommodating a bit more for Expo 2020 is hardly a job.

President of Emirates Airline, Tim Clark, considers that Dubai would be a decent host because he believes that Dubai has what it takes to make the Expo work efficiently. The right kind ability, infrastructure, desire and expertise go a long way is helping to deliver a jumbo event like Expo 2020. The fact that Dubai is easily accessible from any corner of the world is another major factor that positions Dubai as a much better contender for the bid.

Emirates Airlines alone is serving 129 destinations with 198 aircrafts from Dubai. It just goes to show how important a business hub the UAE in general and Dubai in particular is. The fleet will be expanded to 250 aircrafts which will be wide bodied by 2020 and at least 30 more destinations will be serviced by the airline making it the widest reach operator with connections to more destinations in Asia, Africa, Europe and Americas.  This growth is to be seen in continuity to the role that UAE already plays as a hub between large populations across the west and east, north and south. By 2020, Emirates will service more destinations across the world and will make a huge addition into making the Expo more international than ever. BIE will find that the participants get the widest international impact.

Dubai Airports CEO, Paul Griffiths, echoes the Emirates CEO’s sentiment. The sheer capacity of visitors from all over the world and the diversity it displays in UAE is really remarkable. Added to that is the excellent infrastructure it commands. Dubai Expo 2020 will be a first world level expo for the entire MENASA (Middle East, South Asia and Africa) region throwing open new vistas of opportunities for world’s fastest growing and emerging economies.

Dubai is ready for the expected boost in visitor’s traffic that will result after expo 2020 successful bid. Dubai World Central will provide 5 runways and can easily manage 160 million passengers per year and approx. 12 million tons of freight. The UAE is the world’s 3rd largest re-export business market and its importance in global trade is undeniable. It is a doorway to many markets.

Emirates NBD, Group CEO, Rick Pudner think that it is positive thing – that bid of Dubai for Expo 2020. Dubai is apt as it is really a global city and has encouraged new ideas and thus a natural choice. An unwavering commitment of the whole country, its citizens, leadership and economy will guide the event to be a complete success. NBD will actively adds its bit in spreading the awareness and support through its wide and varied customer base. At NBD, they realize that every bit counts to win the expo 2020 bid and deliver to expectations.

Pudner remarked, “Emirates NBD which is one of the biggest UAE bank, having staff of above 7500 representing more than 60 nationalities of the world. On the basis of this Emirates NBD can be considered as might be considered as embodiment for the World Expo 2020 theme that is: ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’ “.

Dubai enjoys a unique advantage. It is just 4-hr flight away from most parts of the world, for the almost 1/3rd of the world’s population. Dubai Expo 2020 will therefore have more visitors from rest of the world, again a first in the history of Expositions.

In his welcome address to BIE’s enquiry mission, His Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, Higher Committee Managing Director to host Expo 2020 in Dubai and UAE State Minister, said that the Enquiry Mission was critical and that he was sure that the diligence of his people in planning will go on to prove their ability for the hosting of event.

The whole country and stakeholders have shown their support in multitude ways. For instance, every night at 20:20, the famed Burj Al Arab is lighted with the expo bid’s logo. Approx. 3000 children of different schools joined in a walkathon organized by the Dubai Police, with zest.

Soon, we will know who wins the bid to be decided by votes of 163 member nations of the Bureau of International expositions.
