Dubai Dream to Organize History’s Top Expo
With the days remaining for the final vote getting nearer, Dubai has been receiving couple of special guests. Recently, the team from BIE (Bureau International des Expositions) was in the city. This inter-governmental body was represented by a delegation headed by Steen Christiansen, Chairman of the BIE Executive Committee, the purpose- to assess Dubai’s capability to host Expo 2020.
Earlier, UAE submitted its official dossier to host the Expo 2020 in Dubai. The Expo is estimated to draw over 25 million visitors. UAE submitted its bid of Dubai with the signature theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’.
The BIE delegation was on a four day visit to evaluate against the bid dossier proposals. They were also looking into the long term effects on the economy and the utilization of additional infrastructure that the Expo needs. Different aspects like financial costs, promotions across the world, planning and viability were also discussed. Dubai Trade Centre, Jebel Ali -the proposed venue for the event was also studied on different economic parameters.
The team also showed interest in the country’s heritage, its culture, outlook to education and art. They visited the prominent landmarks of UAE to prepare a comprehensive analysis of the country and Dubai.
The corporate world welcomes these developments. The Chief Executive of Emirates Airline & Group, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, said that they are honoured to welcome to welcome the BIE team. He, as we know, is the President of Civil Aviation and also occupies the office of Chairman of the Higher Committee for Hosting the 2020 World Expo in Dubai. He added that with the visit, the delegates from BIE could experience the excitement that Expo 2020 has created in the country and have a taste of cultural diversity that the nation displays.
The Emirates CEO’s words speak of the confidence the corporates in Dubai have, “We are looking forward with pride for the discovery of our capabilities by the Mission for the hosting of Expo 2020 along with the making of best expo in the 150 years history of Expos.”
DP World, Etisalat, Jumeirah Group, Emirates airline, Dubai Airports and Emirates NBD bank have pledged unwavering support for Dubai’s bid. In a recent interview Mohammed Sharaf, Group CEO, DP World reiterated the support for the bid. According to him, DP world has an extensive support programme planned which has the backing of 30,000 personnel and has sponsorships featuring Expo 2020, thereby increasing the reach to millions. The DP World Tour Championship golf tournament will also run the support spots when watched by more than 100 million viewers.
When asked how DP World finds a resonance in the bid, he clearly explained the link – Innovation. It holds true for Dubai Expo 2020 as well as DP World. Innovation is almost a habit with DP world and percolates down to leadership, solutions, and community initiatives. By supporting the bid, DP world hopes to part of an endeavour that encourages a new generation of innovators which in the long run will reflect in aligning UAE towards a knowledge economy. He summed up by the lucid reply to the connecting factors to the bid theme. He believes that DP world’s business has understood the need for cross border cooperation giving excellent results for all concerned and he thinks it will hold true for all.
